I am trying to connect one Joseph McKnight b. ~1800 VA m. ~1830 to Lucinda Parks in Claiborne Co., TN and d. ~1855 in Lafayette Co., WI.He and Lucinda lived in WI from about 1830 on.A possible brother of Joseph's, Anthony b. ~1810, married Lucinda Parks' sister Narcissa also in Claiborne Co., TN.They eventually ended up in Custer Co., NE, but may have also spent time in WI. I suspect there were at least two other brothers: possibly James and Miles (father of the George Washington McKnight mentioned below).Mahala McKnight may be a daughter of this James McKnight.I have seen the name Mahala in connection with the PARKS family also mentioned below.
Joseph and Lucinda (Parks) McKnight's daughter, Lucinda Jane McKnight (b. ~1832, WI) married Thomas Baker. In the 1880 census, Thomas Baker indicates his father is from KY.I have not been able to pinpoint Thomas Baker (b. ~1830), but I have found an Elmus Baker who married the widow (Eliza or Iznz Parsons) of George Washington McKnight. Eliza Parsons was born and lived also in Lafayette Co., WI.Elmus Baker lived in Freeport, Stephenson Co., IL which is just across the state border between WI and IL from Lafayette Co.One of Elmus's daughters (Harriet) married a Joseph R. Weaver.Thomas and Lucinda Jane (McKnight) Baker's son, Joseph William Baker married Mary Lucinda Weaver who is a cousin of Joseph R. Weaver.
Through various online resources, I'm beginning to suspect that Joseph McKnight was the son or nephew of the elder Anthony McKnight of Russell/Washington Co., VA.The Bakers may have also originally come from VA.The Parks were from Orange/Caswell Co., NC.
I hope that some of this tangled web of MCKNIGHTs, BAKERs, and PARKS might sound familiar to someone out there!!
