My g-g-grandfather John Calvert and his wife Ann (Bruskill) came to New Diggings, Lafayette County, Wisconsin from Crook of Durham County, England in 1850 to work in the mines (shades of "How Green Was Valley. They had seven children, three of which died in infancy, the others were named Thomas, Hannah (born during the crossing), Robert and Matthew.John served in Company C of the 33rd Wisconsin Volunteer Infantry. My concern is with Thomas and Robert who after working the mines in Wisconsin and Henry County, Illinois ended up in Greene County, Iowa where they both mined and farmed virgin land. Are there any relatives still in the area?Does anyone know anything more about these Calverts? Thanks.
