Hi, Shannon, If you're still able to do look-ups for Manitowoc, I would love to try to get a fix on when my gr.gr. grandparents moved there.I have an excerpt from a book (below) that puts them there in 1854, but I can't find them before the 1870 census.
From Patron's Directory 1893: Roh: H.Temperance Grove Stock and Dairy Farm.born in Germany 1831.Wife born in Germany 1837.Married in 1865.Settled farm in 1854.
Their names were Henrich (Henry) and Christine (Harder) Roh, Rohe, Roeh. They lived in Schleswig in 1870:
1870 Schleswig, Manitowoc CO, WI Census Information: Henry, age 37, Farmer, b. Prussia Christine, age 31, Keeping House, b. Prussia Detlef, age 10, At Home, b. WI Henry, age 9, At Home, b. WI Claus, age 7, At Home, b. WI William, age 5, At Home, b. WI Emma, age 3, At Home, b. WI Margarethe, age 2 months, At Home, b. WI Margarethe, age 73, At Home, B. Prussia Peter Schaar, age 35, Domestic Servant, b. Prussia Bertha, age 2, At Home, b. WI
If you have access to census or property records prior to 1870 and find them listed anywhere, I would love to hear about it.Thanks so much.Susan
