My cousin and I are still in pursuit of the parents of 3rd GGF Alanson Whiting, probably born in Massachusetts about 1788 and died in Romulus, Seneca County, NY on 9 October 1849.In the probate file for him, there is a debt of $77.63 listed as due A. Whiting (marked very doubtful for collection) from an E. G. Whiting. The note was signed at Rochester July 9 1845.
Now there were many possibilities for an E. Whiting in this time period, but only one that I have found so far who consistently referred to himself as E. G. Whiting in census records. This was Ebenezer G. Whiting of Racine, Wisconsin. He was born about 1803 in Massachusetts and married, possibly three times. The first marriage was to Helen Lynch, another to Sophia V. --?--.Helen's parents were originally from Great Barrington, Mass.
Ebenezer was an inventor and for a time co-owned a company with J. L. Case for the manufacture of agricultural implements.Ebenezer Whiting died in Racine, Wisconsin on 5 June 1885.I have noted three possible sons from census records -- William H., George L. and Charles D..
Is anyone on the list researching Ebenezer Gladen/Gladden Whiting? If so, please contact me if you have determined parentage for him or have any possible leads on his family. It's a longshot, but there may a link to Alanson Whiting, our ancestor.
