Re: Jonathan Leavitt Magoon, Charles David Magoon, David Henry Magoon (McGoon), Lewis Magoon, Simeon Magoon, Harriet Bray, John Bray McGoon, Delila Francis, Delila Ives, Levi Francis, Marble Family. Stanstead, Quebec, CAN; Phelps, Ontario Co, NY; Kirtland, Ohio; Chagrin, Ohio; Sheboygan County, Wisconsin; Allamakee County, Iowa.
For a few years now we've been trying to connect David Henry McGoon, b. 1 Feb 1813, Stanstead, Quebec, CAN to his parents. There is some speculation his father is Simeon son of Jonathan Leavitt Magoon (b. 1 Jun 1755), but there is more speculation that he is the son of Charles David also a son of Jonathan Leavitt Magoon. 1] A speculation is that Charles David was married to a part or whole-bloodied Indian by the name of Harriet Bray. Harriet could be first or middle name. We do know that many Brays lived in the area of where David Henry settled (Allamakee County, Iowa) and David Henry even named one of his children John Bray McGoon, but we've yet to marriage-connect a Bray to a Magoon. If Charles David is the father we are fairly sure he died about 1814. We are fairly sure his mother remarried but have no idea to whom and if they were with David in Ohio, Wisconsin and then Iowa. 2] Much research has been done on David Henry and much of it is pretty well validated. We don't know where David Henry was from 1813 until 1832 when we find him in Ohio. It appears Lewis Magoon is also there. David Henry leaves Ohio for Wisconsin in mid-1840's then on to Iowa just before 1860 where he stayed until his death in 1891. It appears again that Lewis Magoon is in this area with him. 3] David's wife was Delila FRANCIS (2nd wife). Her father Levi is in Phelps, Ontario Co, NY along with the MARBLE's, Delila's mother's maiden name. The FRANCIS family and many from the MARBLE family end up in Ohio in the area where David Henry is. We do not know if they met there or if their relationship began back in Ontario Co, NY. Some FRANCIS and MARBLE family members also end up in Allamakee County, IA. If anyone has any information which would update what we have or provide any possible connections to the family names mentioned, I would certainly appreciate your help. Sincerely, Mike Peterson
