Yeh, those butchered names pose real problems. I believe that I saw a marriage record transcription for Edgar R. and Helen and her maiden name is listed as "SCUMELT". I'm not sure I understand but do you have Edgar's death certificate? If you do then I assume that Murphy's Law applied. I did find one other little bit of info which again you might already have: it appears that Uriah and Helen's daughter Hattie (Harriet) married a C. S.(tephen?)J. KLARES on 2 March 1879, Cook County. Again the name might be butchered. Have you sought a DC for her? Likewise, do you have info on daughter Julia C. - could there be a DC for her that you can find?
Insofar as an estate file goes, you just don't know until you see it. No guarantees, could be a wealth of info or a total wash. In my experience, I've usually found some good information although not always what I originally sought. Rick
