I have just returned to Western Canada from a trip to Wisconsin and I must say your state is very beautiful. My g-g-g-grandfather, Ezra Cole, settled in the town of Marion in 1849, died in 1862 and is buried in Marion Cemetery alongside his wife, Vanlora Stratton (Leach) Cole. A mystery presented itself while I was there and I am hoping someone can solve it for me. Immediately adjacent to the graves of Ezra and Vanlora are the graves of Byron Cole and his two wives, Hannah and Mary. Byron is a mystery in our family. We are certain he is related to us but we do not know the connection. He was born in 1831 in Cattaraugus County, New York, and is the son of Daniel Mansfield Cole and Polly Bigelow. Here's where the real mystery comes in.Byron died in 1907 but the monument at his grave is quite new, probably erected in the last 25 years or so.It is a very expensive headstone and I would like to contact the relatives who bought and paid for it.While I was visiting Wautoma I made several calls to monument companies where I had hoped the headstone was purchased but I struck out.I am guessing since it was such a large piece of red granite, it would have been purchased fairly close by, perhaps in Oshkosh or in Berlin. Can somebody put me in touch with Byron's generous benefactor so I can unravel this mystery and find out how Byron fits in to our family?
