Thanks so much for writing!!!YES, these are my people! The Herman Nickel age 8 in the 1880 census IS my Grandfather. He was the oldest son of Herman Frederick Nickel and wife Caroline Marquardt Nickel. The Bernhard Nickel listed as oldest son was actually Bernard CONRAD son of Caroline Marquardt and ____.Ben CONRAD was listed as a "fatherless" son of Caroline when she came to the area in about 1869.Herman Frederick William Nickel and Caroline Nickel were married in 1871.
As to the Huf family I suspect that Emilie Huf was an older sister of my Caroline Marquardt Nickel, but I have no proof.I have only found a few of the Nickel siblings and the Huf name has not been connected to that line,so I suspect she was from the Marquardt line.My Mother always said we were related to the Huff family somehow.
Again, thanks so much for answering my query. Are you connected to either the Nickel or Huf lines ?My Grandfather Herman A. Nickel came here to Grant County, WI after a dispute with his father about 1896-1897 (He married in Dubuque, Iowa in 1898 to Lettie Emler).Except for a few visits back "up north" my Grandfather lived out his life near here at Cassville, WI.
If you are connected to these families, please let me know "how".
Thanks,
