Omro Journal Thursday, October 2, 1879 p. 5 An Old Soldier Dead. September 21st, there died at the residence of A. E. Scott, in the village of Manawa, this county, Victor Charroin, at the advanced age of ninety years.He was born in the city of Menux, near Paris, December 31st, 1789; served seven years as a soldier and five years as a prisoner of war in Russia, and was with the first Napoleon in the memorable retreat from Moscow during the winter of 1812-13.He resided at Oshkosh until quite recently.Mrs. A. F. Scott was his daughter. New London Times. Mr. Charroin was well and favorably known in our village, having lived in the town of Omro for a number of years.The old gentleman, the last time we saw him, was as smart and spry as most men of 50 years.
