I am trying to find the mother of my great grandfather, Charles Anton Hollingshead, who we have been told was named Caroline or Carolyn Clark Hollingshead. I estimate that she was born around 1846 and died when my grandfather was about 10 in 1878). She was married to Daniel Hollingshead (1842-1870) who died of consumption. Daniel's parents were Barbara Spahr (1815-1858) and William Hollingshead (1804-1871). William's parents were Daniel Hollingshead (1774 - ?) and Susanna England (1780-1806) Daniel remarried a woman named Mary son after Susanna's untimely death and they had 8 more children, three of whom have unusual enough names (Venus, Eli and Druscilla) to make them easily recognizable in a cursory search. With roots in Pennsylvania, most of the family lived in Marshall County in Virginia and then later West Virginia when state lines were redrawn. We have lost a sense of our history in that my great grandfather ran away from home when he was about 12 years old after his mother died. We were told there was a step parent in the picture. I know that he had many, many relatives in Marshall County but haven't found any reference to him being taken in by any of them. So it is all a bit of a mystery. I would appreciate any information anyone might have on the West Virginia branch of the Hollingshead family.
