The son of Henry,- Nelson H. Abbey was a plasterer in Bellows Falls, Widham Co., Vermont.Nelson H. married Minerva deWolf at Mason Co. Illinois abt 1831.
Nelson and Minerva had three boys; Volney 1833 (a writter and farmer- also a Pony Express Rider;) James D. 1836 (he married Nancy McSparrenand their family is partially in western Kansas;) Alberton 1841 (no further info.)
Minerva died abt 1831
Nelson H. then married Emmaline Clark 2 May 1850.
Nelson and Emmaline had one boy; Enis- in Missouri.
Of the foregoing, Volney is my ancester-as for the rest, I have a very scant knowledge.
I found a partial diary of a James Abbey, described as a 49er (1849.) James describes his journey to California just after leaving the shores of the great salt lake. I presume that the wagon train James was in, outfitted in the Mormon outpost in the Salt lake Valley. (now Utah)
My problem is that (My) James was born in 1836 and would only have been 13 or 14, in 1849.The part of the journal, which was printed in the book, A History of Utah, by Young- seems more mature than 13 0r 14.
Any help concerning my Abbey forefathers would be very much appreciated....Nevelle
