Hi, Michelle!I'm not sure if you'll get this e-mail since your message was posted so long ago, but I think I may have a few answers for you (only a few!).I am the great-granddaughter of William Newton Abbey from when he lived in So. Illinois. His father Cyrus (born abt. 1836 in Gibson Co., IN, death unknown) and mother Sarah Jane Pollard (born 1847 in Gibson Co., IN, died unknown, but I know she remarried later to a Cozart) were married on February 21, 1867 in Gibson Co., IN.Sarah was the daughter of Micaja Pollard and Kitty Redman.Cyrus was the son of James Pearl Abbey (born abt. 1802 in Fairfield, CT) and Mary (Polly) Hobbs (born abt. 1804 in Lee County, VA, died abt. 1883 in Morgan Co., IN).James Pearl Abbey and Mary (Polly) Hobbs were married on January 3, 1832.I don't know who James Pearl Abbey's parents are, do you? But, back to poor Cyrus:I know from all the family stories that she was an extremely mean person; she threatened her daughter Della regularly (rumor has it that Della gave birth to a baby by one of the borders that Sarah had living with her, and, in a rage, Sarah killed the baby and blamed it on Della.I think Della may have gone to prison for that because, and again, this is just family rumor, but . . .my grandfather changed the spelling of his last name from Abbey to Abba. However, people around Carmi and Enfield still pronounce it as Abbey.I have a picture of Sarah Pollard Abbey Cozart and would be happy to share it with you, if you'd like it.I don't think I have a pic of poor Cyrus.I also have a picture of William Newton Abbey, who was a very good looking guy - I don't think he got his looks from Sarah : )I also know that he left my great-grandmother when my grandfather was 11 years old. They had 6 kids:Cecil Floyd; Laura May and Orvil Ray (twins); Lenore; Ethel and Ernest. My mom said William Newton went to Kansas and she remembers stopping by there when she was young (probably late 40's) and the family was on their way to California, but my grandpa refused to get out of the car and go in to see him.Let me know what else you'd like to know and I'll try to answer!
