Our James is well documented. In the local histories he is a "son of a Revolutionary War soldier", born in S.C.Married Catherine "Kitty" Tillman in Tennessee in 1799.In a document he signed his name as James Abbit. They moved to Preble County, Ohio, moving there in a family group that included Kitty's father Tobias Tillman who had fought in the Rev. War. They had 10 children and eventually settled in Wabash County Indiana. Among other adventures James killed an Indian who had broken into their house, braining him with a skillet. He died at 91 in Indiana. This branch of Abbotts hasvery long lived males, by the way.The only way we could know if your James was his father was if there is some family lore about a son who got lost. in 1780.
