That brings us to Lucreatia and Joseph Nixon you have their info in my previous post.
Now here is the story about the spelling of the name Lasley / Leslie. This info is confirmed by Martin's grand daughter with whom I have been in contact, Martin also spelled the name Lasley.
I had been looking for Lucreatia's parents for a long time. I started looking on the 1870 and 1880 census' for Pike Co. I knew that Joseph and Lucreatia had to live near each other in order to meet and marry. I found one Lucreatia , the right age on the 1880 census, but she was living with a Robert Allen and wife Hannah. I was confused by this. So I checked the usgenweb site for anyone looking for Lasley's in Pike or Warrick Co. Indiana. I sent a message and got an answer from Martin's grand daughter and she gave me the info I needed. After William died in the Civil War, Hannah married Robert Allen. Martin, William and Jackson hated this man so much that when they reached the ages of 13 or 14 they ran away and completely lost touch with their mother and sisters for many years. They went back to using their father's name and for some reason mis- spelled it as Lasley. Lucreatia apparently felt the same way as her brothers did because when her mother died she buried her with William. I have no idea what happened to Robert Allen, but apparently I think the old saying "good riddance to bad rubbish" would apply here. Lucreatia signed her name as Lasley instead of Leslie on her marriage certificate, I presume she also just mis- spelled the name. This all explained why I could find no Lasley families in Pike or Warrick Co.s on the census. Martin's grand daughter had all the family info from her father and we were both amazed that all of our info matched, she knew that Lucreatia had married a Nixon and had been looking for a descendant of hers for a long time. It was sheer chance that we found each other.By the way a correction on Lucreatia's death date that I gave you on the previous post: she died about 11 months after her mother did. her date of death should be 12-3-1893.
