I have the following on a William Abbott and Matilda Godsey:
Per the Marriage Records of Scott Co., VA, on Oct. 15, 1830, William Abbott married Matilda Godsey. The 1840 Census of Parke Co., IN, lists William Abbott.William's household includes 5 males (2 = 5-10yrs; 2 = 15-20yrs; and 1 = 40-50yrs) and 5 females (1 = 5yrs & under; 1 = 5-10yrs; 1 = 10-15yrs; 1 = 15-20yrs; and 1 = 30-40yrs).Based on this census record, William and Matilda had several children.I have not yet established their names.I have found several land deed transactions of William Abbott in Parke Co. from 1836 and 1843.
I believe they married in Scott Co., VA, and may have moved to Morgan Co., KY, before going on to Parke Co., IN.I don't know where they went after 1840.Matilda had two sisters who married John B. Barker and William Phipps in Morgan Co., KY, and also moved to Parke Co., IN, in the 1830's.
In addition to these 3 couples (3 Godsey sisters, daughters of Clinton Godsey of Scott Co., VA), there was a James Phipps and his wife Mary "Polly" Barker from Scott Co., VA, who moved through Morgan Co., KY, and then settled in Parke Co., IN.James and Mary had a daughter named Nancy Phipps who married a George Abbott in Parke Co. on April 9, 1837.Nancy died in 1842.After about 1843, I can't find anything else on William Abbott or George Abbott in or around Parke Co.
Is this possibly the same William Abbott as yours?Do you have them in Missouri in 1850?I would appreciate any further information that you may have.
