Hi,Listers, I finally found the John C. Abbott of my message sent on January 14, 2000. He is in the 1850 MA Census for Ward 7, Boston, Suffolk, MA, born NH, age 30, cornmerchant(maybe) with wife Mary E., age 29, Lydia H. age 13 b. Mass., Ellen E., age 7, b. Missouri, Charles F., age 3, b. Missouri and two servants, Jane Moueton, age 40, b. Ireland and Mary McCuskey, age 22, DO. The next residence listed is that of Henry Fuller, age 60, lawyer, property valued at $10,000 and a large household of other people. John was b. July 31, 1820 in Concord, NH, son of Peter Hazeltine Abbott b. Feb 28, 1780and Sarah m. March 9, 1815. Peter's father was Daniel Abbott b. Aug 7, 1738. Mary Ellen's last name was Fuller and I suspect the Henry Fullerwas her father. I found Peter Abbott also in the 1850 census , age70 b. NH, farmer, with Hepsibeth, age 41, Georgianna, , age 5, Asaph? Dow 34, carpenter and K...iah?, age 76. So there you have it, John and Mary moved to St Louis MO. in 1846 when Lydia was 9 or 10, had the next two children and moved back to MA by 1850. The real question I had about the letter still has not been answered. Why was it in my family's paper? I hope that I helped some one on the list with this information.
