Dick Grant's suggestion is a good one, but a caveat about keeping the families' lines apart by their surname spelling: even if the family members could spell their own name (which wasn't always true), clerks and scribes spelled names as they saw fit. I've seen Abbott, Abbot, Abbet, Abet, etc. in my own family alone. Remember what Pres. Andrew Jackson once reportedly said: "I can't really respect a man who can only spell a word one way."
Since posting my original query, I've managed to trace my people from Walter Abbot of Portsmouth NH and several descendants in Kittery, including Robert and Aaron Sr., then Aaron Jr of York. I'll be happy to share.
