3. John3, Captain, born March 14, 1655, was a blacksmith in Andover and noted for his deeds of prowess. When he had vanquished every opponent in his community, he invited a trial of strength with the Rev. John Wise who had been a famed wrestler in his youth. Mr. Wise consented and after a brief struggle pitched his antagonist over the wall into the highway. The vanquished blacksmith looked over the wall and good - naturedly invited him to throw his horse over also. John married Hannah Abbot (George1) December 20, 1676. He died in 1721, his widow in 1741 aet 90.
