John W. ABBOTT's father was Edwin Craig ABBOTT, b. Jan 4, 1812 (we think in CT) d. Apr. 28, 1856 in Oran Township, Fayette Co., IA, just after he moved there from Porter Co., Indiana. John's mother was Mary Ann (Wright) ABBOTT, b. Jun. 17, 1814 in Clark Co., KY d. Aug 7, 1886 in Linn Co. IA.The farm was next to her brother's, Andrew Jackson WRIGHT. The farm is located just north of Fairbank, IA.
John's brothers were; James, James Arza, Cyrus, Hillary, Eldridge, Mack and Osceola Charles (my greatgrandfather). His sisters were; Irene, Irene Electa, and Phelina.
After the Civil War, the brothers and sisters left the farm and moved away. Osceola moved to Albion, NE. Mack and Eldridge moved to Glenrock, WY.O.C. moved later to Glenrock and opened a store and Post Office. In 1889 they left Glenrock, WY. Irene Electa married Perry BROWN, and followed the Oregon Trail to Portland, along with Eldridge and Mack. O.C. and his family moved to San Pedro, CA.Mary Ann ABBOTT sold the farm in 1872 and move to Linn Co. IA.
