Your information about the two George Abbotts most agrees with what I have. My information came from two sources: The Essex Antiquarian of March 1897 Vol. l-No 3 and Abbot Gen. Register by Rev. Abiel Abbot and Rev. Ephraim Abbot. This is my line and goes thus:
George Abbot b. 1551 Bishops Stortford, Herts, Eng. m. Bridget Wylley b. 1551 Thier son George b. 1587 Bishops Stortford, Herts, Eng. m. Elizabeth ? Thier son George b. 1617 Bishops Stortford, Herts, Eng. m. Hannah Chandler b. 1629-30 do. of William Chandler and Annis Bayford
The William Chandler and George Abbot families came to NE on the same ship.
Thier son William Abbott b. 1657 Andover, Essex, Ma m Elizabeth Geary (Gary) b. 1661 Roxbury, Suffolk, MA do. of Nathaniel Gary and Anne Douglas
Thier son James Abbott b. 1694/5 Andover, Essex MA m Abigail Farnum, b. 1692 Andover, do of Ralph Farnam and Sarah Sterling.
Thier son James Abbott b. 1717, Concord NH m. Sarah Bancroft b. 1722, do. of Capt Samuel Bancroft and Sarah Lampson (Lamson).
Thier son William Abbott b. 1755 Concord, Merrimack NH m. Mabel Whittlesey b 1756, do. of Josiah Whittlesey and Elizabeth Jackson.
Here my line daughters out when their daughter Ann (Anna) married Samuel Knight.
The Essex Antiquarian, Vol 1 No. 7, says that the George Abbot of Rowley, Mass and his three sons George who m. Sarah Farnum 26 Apr 1658, and Nehemiah and Thomas.
Notice that early on the spelling was Abbot, later to become Abbott.Hope this makes sense. My membership in the Colonial Dames was predicated on this information.
