I sent you the following detailed email 3/21/07 and must have missent it:
"My 2nd great-grandfather was Littleton Berry Abbett, born in GA, 10 August 1825. He married Sarah Caroline Land in Dadeville, Tallapoosa Co. AL 6 January, 1850. He was in the Civil War and later migrated to Union Parish, LA. In December of that year, he and his wife were shown on the 1850 Census for Pike Co. GA visiting his sister, Eliza and her husband, Joshua Callahan. He was listed as a "physician". The month before, he and his wife were listed on the Census in the home of her father, Solomon Land. He is listed as "Perry Abbot", and as a physician.
In the four years I have been working on my family history, I have found that often a fellow migrated with, or to follow, other relatives. I wonder if some of the other Abbott/Abbett folks came from the same area in GA as Berry. In looking at Pike Co. GA, where he was visiting his sister, I have not found any proof of his having lived there. The sister, on the Census record, stated that she was born in SC. Berry always listed GA as his place of birth.
Sorry for all the details but thought it may help. Do you know where, in GA, Meredith came from? Was he related to any other Abbotts in Tallapoosa that you know? I see that he was born a couple of years before Berry. Any info you have could be helpful. If there is a relation, it may show up in land transactions in AL or possibly back in GA.
I have done quite a lot of looking through GA for Abbett/Abbott families who migrated from SC, where Berry's sister was born, to narrow down the possible parents, search Wills, etc. for any hint. Any info I have gathered, I am most happy to share.
Again, thanks for taking time to read and reply to my posting.
Jim Williams" ------------------------------------------------------ I am posting it here for you and anyone else who may have someone in Tallapoosa Co. AL from GA and would like to share info with them.
