The pictures you have on your website are all fantastic. The children of Lewis Abbott are absolutely beautiful.
My husband Dale and I knew the family of Isaac Marcus and Caroline Maria (Coles) Abbott - because they lived in Paynesville, MN where Dale grew up. Isaac was known as "Ike" Abbott. In fact, the Abbott house in Paynesville you have a picture of used to sit on a big corner lot that we can see from the house we are living in right now. And - we both remember when the house was owned and lived in only by Isaac and Caroline's daughter "May" Abbott. This would be Julia M. Abbott - b: 13-Nov-1888 and d: Aug-1981. May Abbott was never married and she was an accountant for the biggest Turkey Industry / Produce Company in the whole area. One Ancestry census - either the 1910 or the 1920 - attributes 2 children to May J. - but that is not correct. They must have been children belonging to one of May's brothers - as they are Abbott's. May Abbott also owned a small farm just outside of town. She rented out the land to local farmers but at one time my husbands family rented the farmhouse when they first moved to town in 1940.
Then, as for my gr gr grandmother - Sarah (McGuire) Dugan - Wilkins - Abbott, she was the Civil War widow of my gr gr grandfather, Lewis F. Dugan, and had three small children at the time of his death - Samuel Emmett, my gr grandmother Emma Belle and Melissa Ann Dugan. They were living in Logansport, Cass Co., IN at that time - 1862, but moved back to the Farmland area of Randolph Co., IN (where they had married), after she became a widow. There she married Reverand Francis Wilkins - also a widower and with him moved to Meeker Co., MN where Francis died ca 1876. By that time Hiram Abbott was also a long time widower, who had lost his own wife, Catherine (Rowland)to childbirth in 1865. Hiram and Catherine (Rowland) Abbott had two daughters - Elizabeth Frances -b: 1857 and Anna Gertrude -b: 1865. Elizabeth Frances Abbott married Samuel Emmett Dugan in Meeker Co., MN. (They had 12 children together. Then Samuel E. Dugan died in Crow Wing Co., MN on 10-Feb-1902 and Elizabeth remarried to a John Nelson in 1904.)
Seems Sarah Wilkins married Hiram Abbott ca 1878 or so in Meeker Co., MN and they are located on the Forest Prairie, Meeker Co., MN 1880 census but then all moved to the Brainerd area of Crow Wing Co., MN shortly after that and lived out the remainder of their lives there. Hiram Abbott died 02-April-1912 and Sarah died 10-Mar-1915. Hiram's Civil War records (which I have) show he was going blind in his old age but the government didn't help him much - so life was hard for them. After Hiram died Sarah had a bit of a breakdown and was not the same to the time of her death. After 30 years of family history research on the McGuire and Dugan lines, I only know that Sarah McGuire's parents were a Samuel and Eunice (Burns) McGuire - with Samuel born 1804 in Chowan Co., NC to a Michael and Elizabeth (Hensley)McGuire, who married there in Jan of 1800. As for Lewis F. Dugan, Sarah's 1st husband - I have not ever found his parents. Only that he was supposedly born in Preble Co., OH ca 1833 and that's according to his Civil War records. Let me know if you would like to know more. I do have birth and death dates on all the above people and their children, etc. Until later, Judy - MN
