I, too, have had a terrible time with my Abbott line. Nobody seems to be able to connect to it through that surname past Benjamin Franklin Abbott (my line). He was b. 1812, prob. NC, or GA, children b. AL. He married Caroline Pickett Willis (Willis/Johnston/Muchmore lines).
I have collected parts of Abbott lines and cluster genealogy trying to find out who Ben's parents are, All I have to go on is, that two people have told me (family ) that his father was Alexander Abbott of NY.
When I saw your Richard Abbott m. Elizabeth Feavors, it caught my eye.
I connect to many large, known family groups, one being the Alexander Oliver m. Jane Killough line. Mary Ann Oliver m. John Russom Weems. She was b. 11-16-1822, Harmony Ridge, Mills Co., TX. She also married William Nalle Favor. From the first marriage with Weems, they had Nancy Jane Weems m. William Augusta Abbott, son of Ben b. 1812 (above). William Augusta Abbott was my great-great-grandfather.
So, maybe your Feavors are Favor(s). Just a thought.
I recently heard some historian on tv talking about William Barrett Travis, as well. They said his true descendacy (sp?) was Barrick and Traverse. That the name changed, as many do. So, possibly, your Travus is Travis? My Adam Lawrence served as a scout to William B. Travis at Bexar, and also a scout to Daniel Boone and Moses Austin (father of Stephen F.(Fuller) Austin, Empressario of Texas.
I DO know that through the Weems line, I connect to the Heil, or Hale, or Hill, Abbott line, and spelling of this name is change over and over again, but apparently the same person. John Russom Weems had a brother, James Willliam Weems, and his daughter was also named Nancy (from John Russom Weems, Nancy Jane). Nancy and Nancy Jane were first cousins. Anyway, they connect to the Wilburn Abbott line.
There is also a famous Benjamin Abbott who was a circuit preacher, but I cannot tie to him, maybe you could?
I have also collected a small group of Abbotts in the Custis/Justice line in James City, VA abt. 1640. I think that I may be related to them as they also connect to George Abbott that m. Sarah Custis. William Justice was also married to her. Mary Fraeme or Frame is also connected to this line, and I have her husband as James Lawrence, typing this off the top of my head.
The reason I collected these Abbotts in the Custis/Justice line is, that every single line I have goes through the Washington/Warner/Willis/Reade/Miller/Triplett/Reade/Wroe/Browne/Butler/Muchmore/Oliver//Briggs/Terrill lines. Basically, everyone meets someway in a connection to Pres. George Washington.
I recently hooked up with a Whitaker researcher who could not find her Justice connection, and through my collection of clues I was able to send her to them, and now, after a few months, we see that we have Oliver, and many other connections everywhere.
So, just putting this out there for you. You may find a clue if you type in the other spellings that I am sending your way, or one of these other surnames combined with some you have connected to you.
I came across a Richard Abbott in OH or VA that was somehow connected (definitely living near) the Custis family and Parramore family. It was about 15 years ago that I found this, but I think it was New River Valley, OH? or New River VA? Maybe something to think about, as well?
I am trying several lines to find my Benjamin F. Abbott b. 1812.
I know there are the two George Abbott lines that most folks connect to. There is also a cluster of Abbotts in IA, LA, FL, OK, MI.
I am interested in one from OK, because it mentions a Cato R. Abbott, which I was able to link to either the Hiel Abbott line, or one from VA, and the OK Abotts are strongly connected to a Haynes and Triplett lines.
Haynes is a somewhat common suranme in the Lawrence line I have (somehow) and Triplett comes up in the Washington/Wroe/Butler, etc. lines commonly, as well. Haynes, and Triplett are also a big part of my mother's McCormick/Terrill line.
Through a group of ladies, in TX and CA, that I talk to every day, and have the same family groups with on my father's Abbott groups, I now see that we connect to my mother's lines. My mother and my father go back in the same lines all the way to Henry VIII, and end up in Texas. Very spooky.
When I can't find info on my families, the common folk, sometimes looking for the notable ones, I get other connections and clues. Right now, on a trail with Abbott + Savage, that may bring me closer.
So, I am listing a few of the notables that I connect to, and maybe, just maybe we have some common info that will lead to our Abbott connection to the rest of the world. LOL.
