Hi Jerry,
Thanks for writing back.
I will fill you in on my Abbott "study" LOL. I have tried holding on to several Abbott lines to find clues.
So far, several Abbott lines are popular: OK, TX, CA, MI, IA, MD, VT, VA, etc.
All of my family are deceased.
My grandfather: Ralph William Abbott m. Birdie Briggs. Ralph b. 1892, Beaukiss, Williamson Co., TX.
His father: Silas Alexander Abbott b. 1-18-1862, AL or TN. m. Martha Ann "Mattie" Layne b. 9-22-1866, Chapel Hill, Williamson Co., TX.
Parents for Silas: William Augusta Abbott b. 9-16-1837, AL. m. Nancy Jane Weems b.7-22-1842, TN or AL.
Children:
Silas Alexander Abbott
John Franklin Abbott m. Mattie Grumbles and Sarah Elizabeth Spears
James Cannon Abbott m. Fanny Hamilton
William Pickett Abbott m. Mary (Unk)
Robert E. Lee Abbott m. Melissa Lawrence
George Fulton Abbtt m. Mary Esther Arnold and Nannie/Frances (Unk)
Charles Walton Abbott m. Henrietta Hudman
Samuel Randall Abbott m. Eva D. Lawrence
Mary Alena Abbott m. Thomas Jefferson Sides
Gordon Fletcher Abbott m. Sallie Ritchey
William Augusta Abbott may have siblings, but I have no info. to prove it. Mary F Abbott and brother,Silas Abbott.
If you find your Abbotts go into the Custis, Justice, Fraeme, Lawrence lines, it may close a gap that I think may link.
I can't link yet to the two George Abbotts, one in Rowley, the other in Andover, MD.
I think I may be close with Heil/Hale/Hill Abbott, but not enough info on my end.
The Oklahoma Abbotts have common surnames that run through both my mother and father's lines: Triplett, French, Haynes, and one first name that is a last name, Cato, that has lead me on a chase.
Both of my parents go through the Washington lines, back to Henry VIII to the two Plantagenet sisters, Eleanor, and Joan.
My parents share many suranmes, some are: Willis, Warner, Reade, Miller, Lawrence. One tie sort of at McCormick/Terrill/Violet, of VA and KY.
The Briggs line goes to Scotland, but I have another that is British at Henry Briggs m. the widow of Col. John Washington.
I am also trying to gather info. on a very confusing cluster of John Abbott and Ann Toft, who had servants, and some offsprings that sounds like a soap opera that I can't quite figure out.
I was told that Benjamin Franklin Abbott b. 1812 m. Caroline Pickett Willis, was the son of Alexander Abbott. So far, online, the only one that I came across with the timeframe is the bastard child of John Abbott and Hannah Leach, servant to Ann Toft (if I have it right). I found that over 10 years ago. Then, recently, came across the same group, at least sounds like it, in the Woodson line that joins my Layne/Lane families. An Ann Toft is mentioned again, same timeframe.
I keep thinking that Benjamin (who died at age 28) may have been in another country, West Indies, perhaps? Maybe his parents died when he was a child and someone else raised him? Who knows, I am so stuck!
Caroline Pickett Willis' family goes into the Muchmore lines. I have that info., but I know she is connected to the Henry Clay/Abe Lincoln/General Pickett lines somehow. My great-grandmother told my cousin when she [cousin] was a child. And a book, that I cannot find, McAnnelly Bend Drawstrings connects Caroline P. Williis to the Wilis lines of VA, Col. Henry Willis, which is where my parents descend from: Augustine Warner, on one side and Mildred Warner on the other (mom's/dad's).
Many of the surnames on your list are interconnected in Texas, primarily, Williamson, Washington, Lee counties. Many of the men were Texas Rangers, or fought at the Alamo, Bexas, Gonzales, San Jacinto. Many of them are in Arkansas Territory with land grants. In Texas, the Lawrence Chapel and Adina area are where so many people connect. I did a Cemetery list (compiled 4 lists from various decades) so I am very familiar with the families. Some of them went to California, during, and after the goldrush. Ralph was in WA and OR for a short time. Worked for Skoocum Apple Company.
Many of the people in the Texas zones I mentioned workedthe cattle trails. A book, Ladder of Rivers, by Chrisman mentions them.
I can't find my Abbott connection after 25 years, but I am great at figuring out where to direct someone else. It happens all the time.
The Briggs connect to Wroe and Browne to Butler and Washington, as well.
Hope this helps you, or someone you know, and what a delight, if it helps me! LOL.
You sound like an interesting person! Hey, if you find my Benjamin and Caroline, I will gladly restore any photo(s) you want done and send them back to you. Hope to be a retired graphic artist soon.
