Rebecca,I too am seeking more info on Courtney ABBOTT, d/o Reverend Henry ABBOTT, who mar Abner WILLIAMS.It has been a long time since you posted your query.I do hope that you are still interested and will reply. In fact, I would be delighted to have replies for anyone who interested, has information about or is descended from this family.
I have a list of Abner and Courtney's 10 children and the names of some of their spouses. This is my husband's line, he is deceased, but I am still trying to finish his family's genealogy. He descends from son, Amalek C. WILLIAMS, who mar Mary AnnHAWKINS.They and their family lived and are buried in Williamston, Martin co, NC.
The genealogical info that was kindly provided by Linda (Noland) Layman, in Nov 2004, on Henry ABBOTT and his dau, Courtney ABBOTT, was taken from an article in the "Carolina Trees and Branches" publication and was written by my husband's first cousin years ago.She is also now deceased, but was a wonderful family historian and a great help to me in my searches.
Some time ago, I was in contact with another descendant on this line, who said that she had the "gift" that was given to Courtney by George Washington.I had been told by the cousin, that the gift was a ring. This descendant said that she had the ring and would contact me later with additional info.Unfortunately I have not heard from her again after additional attempts to contact her.I hope that she will see this message and reply.
Getting confirmation on some of the details has been difficult. However, I do have info on Henry ABBOTT, but little on his wife, Miriam/Mariam or the dau, Courtney.I do have additional info on Abner WILLIAMS and Courtney's family and descendants.
It would be wonderful to hear from anyone who is interested in these family members.Rev Henry ABBOTT was a historical figure and made important contributions to his Church and State.Abner WILLIAMS had an interesting history as well.At one time he owned a hotel in the Dismal Swamp in NC.
With the Christmas and other holidays approaching, I know that everyone is going to be busy, but, just drop a note and let me know that you are interested in sharing info on these wonderful ancestors of my husband, our children and grandchildren.
Thank you for any consideration and attention to my query.
