Here is some information to get you started in your resarch.First, let's begin with St. Clair County, Alabama marriage records: Elizabeth Ables married William A. Ragland 27 Nov 1861 Ezekiel Abel married Martha J. Graham 21 Nov 1865
Martha Elizabeth Ables (Abel) and Ezekiel Abel were children of Joseph Abel and Mary (Eden) Abel.Martha Elizabeth was born around 1839 (1850 Randoplh Co., Alabama census report).
Joseph Abel was born around 1806 in Abbeville County, SC, one of five brothers (James, John, Joseph, Thomas and Moses). These Abel brothers left SC in early 1800's & went to Tennesse.Between 1830 & 1840, four of the brothers (including Joseph) moved to Randolph County, Alabama. The fifth brother, Moses settled in Benton County (now CAlhoun County), Alabama (1850 Benton County census report).Apparently, Joseph & family moved from randolph Co. to St. Clair County because two of his children were married there. I am sesscended from Joseph Abel's brother, James.
Joseph and Mary Abel had 11 children(1850 Randolph Co. census report). They were:
Jamesb. 1830 Caroline1833 Richard1834 John Calhoun1836 (married Missouri Caledonia Graham - was she ralated to Martha who married Ezekiel??) Andrew1837 Martha Elizabeth1839 Ezekiel1841 Denice1843 Samantha1845 Frances1847 Thomas1849
The above birth years are not exact. They were derived from the ages given in the 1850 census report.
Another Abel researcher informs me that John Calhoun Abel & family were living in Monroe County, MS in 1870 census & were in Calhoun County, Arkansas in 1880 census.Elizabeth & husband Alfred may have taken the same route.
