I saw your entry on searching for kin of the William C. Abel clan from SC, then AL, then MS.
You mentioned that your g-g-g-grandfather was William C Abel. In looking on familysearch.org, I noticed that William's son was Elijah Green Abel. My family's information on familysearch was submitted by the ELIJAH ABEL FAMILY FILE.
I am African American. Looking at all the connections, it seems clear that William C. Abel is connected to my family, a black African family that apprently originated in Pocataligo, South Carolina, and later lived in the Charleston and Georgetown County, SC, areas.
I suspect that the Greens, as slaves, went to AL and MS for a short time before returning to SC. The relevant names are Cato Green, Maria Green (wife) and Monday Green and Mary Green (wife). Monday is the son, born Abt. 1826. Cato would have been my g-g-g grandfather.
I suspect that Elijah Green Abel is the origin of my last name as slaveholders often gave surnames to slaves.
