From The Abell Family in America written by Horace A. Abell: Francis Abell, born about 1758 in England; came to America with the British troops in the Rev. War.Hewas taken prisoner in the surrender of Yorktown, Va., Oct.17, 1781, and when released chose to remain in America.Probablyin Philadelphia, he met Phoebe O'Connor, a girl of wealthy family, recently from Ireland, whom he married , probable early in 1782, and took up residence at Chester, Delaware County, Pa., where their children were born.Ca 1800 they removed to Va., probably to Rockbridge Co. inthe vacinity of the Natural Bridge and perhaps also to Wythe Co., about 1810 moved into Knox Co., TN. from there to Mercer, Nelson & Hardin Co., Ky.Children:Francis, b.ca 1782-83, married Hannah Housten, located in Crawford Co. Ind.; Wm. who marriedRebecca Cox in VA, located in Orange Co. Ind.; Franklin b. in PA, d. Orange Co., Ind., married Barbara Horner;Joseph married Nancy Scott of TN, located in Orange Co. and Martin Co, Ind.; John b. 1793 at Chester, Delaware Co. PA. removed to Mercer Co. Ky, later to Orange Co. Ind.
