That's fantastic news!It looks like we are related then! Hiya cousin!
have you heard about the earlier Abells and the ones who went to America?
Someone sent me the following information (copied here) which might be of interest:
Robert Abell, the first immigrant to what is now the United States, was born in 1589, in Stapenhill, Derbyshire, England. There is all kinds of information about this line of the Abell family as well as other Abell families of Somersall, County Derby and of Norbury, County Derby in the book "The Abell Family in America - Robert Abell of Rehoboth, Mass. His English Ancestry and his Descendants" by Horace A. Abell and Lewis P. Abell.
The information about Thomas Abell is in the Abell Family in America book. This book is out of print but is available online in Family Tree makers GenealogyLibrary. I own a copy of this book and the article in on pages 32-33. He was confined in Beauchamp Tower in the Tower of London and he carved his name in the window sill of his cell and under it carved the symbol of a bell with a A in the center.
The information about Thomas Abell is in the book the Abell Family in America by Horace A. Abell and Lewis P. Abell. It is available online through GenealogyLibrary.com, a service of Family Tree Maker. There is a small monthly charge for this access. "It was charged against him (Thomas) that he had encouraged 'the lady Catherine' after her divorce still to claim the title of Queen and her servants to call her so, against the King's express commands." This was viewed an act of treason by Henry VIII. If all else fails, send me your address and I'll try to send you copies of this. However, access to GenealogyLibrary.com will give you the whole book.
More information about Thomas. He was a Catholic priest who was Queen Katherine's personal chaplain. She was the Spanish wife of Henry the 8th, his first wife. After he divorced her to marry Anne Boleyn, Thomas encouraged Katherine to not give up her title as queen. For this he was sent to the tower for treason.
Some one also asked me about Mary ABELL born 15 Jun 1746 Markfield married to Jarvis GREASLEY of Sibson. Also her father John ABELL Marr. 2 May 1737 to Mary COOPER.
