Am grandson of Abe and Ida Abelman. Abe, who was from Lithuania, was a peddler in N. WI and Michigan during the late 1800's. Abe eventually settled down and opened a mens' and women's clothing store in Bessemer, MI. The store, originally The Abelman Co., now Abelman's, is still there and run by a 3rd generation Abelman. Abe and Ida had nine children, Rose, Joe, Maurice, Frank (1900-93, my father), Sadie, Sarah (Gribble), Dorothy, Alice and Harriet (Wolfe). Harriet is still alive and lives in Reno, NV. There were only 6 offspring from these 9 children. My cousin Robert (who runs the store) and I are the only ones who carry on the family name. We each have a son so the name may go on. It is interesting that our family legend has it that our grandfather had a town named after him from his peddling days in Wisconson. I wonder if our families are related.
