12. Info obtained from Mrs. WW Johnson, descended from Young Abercrombie, 1965
This is my great grandmother, Lenora Bell Abercrombie (b.6 Sep 1898), daughter of Young Bartow (b.8 Oct 1860) and Mary Elizabeth Blackwell (b.18 Mar 1862), who is the son of Young Abercrombie (b. abt 1832) and Isabell Johnson, who then is the son of John Abercrombie & Fannie Cavender.
I saw the 1897 letter from Fannie Jones, Young's sister, where she tells of the Mayflower story. I have heard this told to my by Lenora Bell's daughter, Elizabeth. She said two brothers named James & John came over on the Mayflower and James had the first baby on the Mayflower named Becky Abercrombie. When they landed they picked up a conch shell (we still have this in our family - has a hole on one end to blow through to make a trumpet sound used to call slaves in). The shell almost got auctioned off due to a death in the family, but it was purchased for $100.
I don't believe the 'Mayflower' part of the story, but we do have the shell and I do believe that the 3 brothers came over from Scotland and went into the various parts of the US.
