I am looking for the descendants of James Abercromby (General), 1706-1781, of Glassaugh, Banffshire, Scotland. He married Mary Duff (his third cousin) of Dipple & Brace, and they had at least three children: Jane (who succeeded to the property), Bel (Isabel?), and a son killed at Bunker Hill (possibly Lt. Col. James Abercromby). His parents were Helen Meldrum and Alexander Abercromby, previous Laird of Glassaugh. I believe this is a different line than the Alexander/James/James-Attorney General of SC one, but I'm not positive.
General James came to America in 1756,directed to take charge of Fort Ticonderoga (in the French-Indian war), and was defeated. He then returned to Scotland, where he was deputy governor of Stirling Castle and Laird of Glassaugh until his death.
I don't know if his family (other than the son who was killed at Bunker Hill) followed him to the U.S. Any leads on this line would be very helpful!
