Hi Kim,Someone wrote a book about the Abernathys in Giles Co. TN.Have you seen it?The title is THE ABERNATHY FAMILY by Elizabeth Denty Abernathy, published in 1929 by Pulaski Citizen Print. It's a compilation of a series published in a newspaper in Pulaski, I think.[Do you have any dates? What type of slave labor do you think your ancestor did?working to build railroads, maybe?]The book is well-written but not indexed at all.More than one Abernathy cemetery is mentioned. The author wrote:"With these memories and the one written statement, I began, more than twenty years ago, to try to find out the life story of my father's people. And yet, what I can tell you, today, consists largely of perhaps, probably, and I don't know" (p. 14).I glanced through my copy and did not see mention of a Franklin Abernathy, but this book will probably be important in your research, so I will send you a copy (it's a little more than 30 pp.).Please write me at firstname.lastname@example.org or email@example.com and give me your mailing address.Don't give up!Keep posting!I have a Franklin Abernathy in my database who was b in Chambers Co. AL.His siblings were b 1854-1871.His parents were James William Thomas Abernathy and Frances Joanna Creed who married in 1853.That's all I know about this Franklin Abernathy. Please let me know if you make a connection. As far as I know, I am not related to the Giles Co. TN ABERNATHYs, except possibly in earlier generations in VA maybe when they were between being in PA and moving to SC.
Try writing Ann (firstname.lastname@example.org). She descends from ABERNAHYs in Giles Co. TN; maybe she can help you.
