I do have a listing from the 1850 Bartow Co. Census. It gives a Linford Abernathy age 27 married to Mica.Children listed are:Wilson, 6; Silas, 3; Larkin 8/12 (I think that would be 8 mos); and John Bradshaw, 13.In the 1880 Bartow Co. Census there is a Linford Abernathy age 54 married to Dorothy age 37.Their children are:Vinara (daugh) 19; Linford (son), 13; James, 12; Liddgan (daugh), 10; Ella R, 9; Charlie, 7; Birdie A. (daugh), 5; Mary D., 3; Aldonia (daugh), 1.I do know that both listings for Linford have him born in NC.Mica is shown born in NC.Dorothy is shown as born in GA.My theory (that I've yet to prove) is that it is the same Linford. If you add 30 yrs. (for the difference in the census years) Lindford should have been 57 in the 1880 census.Census's don't always have the age accurate so it is in the general age range you would expect.I think Linford married Mica in NC, came to GA.Nathan Abernathay and Eve Cline (Linford's parents) came to Bartow Co. from Lincoln Co. NC to accept jobs at the new Ironworks in Etowah, GA.Their sons went with them so there are several Abernathy sons in the Bartow Co. census's.In the 1880 census none of his previous children are listed but when you realize that 30 yrs. have passed then you would know that they probably were not living at home by then.I think his wife, Mica, may have died and he married again to Dorothy who was from GA.I need some marriage certificates and maybe some birth certificates for them as well.
As far as Dorothy Carter is concerned, I really don't have anything on her.I think maybe they are both supposed to be buried at Macedonia Cemetery.I've not been able to visit there.Maybe I should write them to get a record of what Abernathy's and maybe even Carters are buried there.
If I can make this connection to Linford who married Dorothy being the same Linford that married Mica, then I have a great genealogy report that someone has done that goes back to Scotland. It has quite a bibliography; unfortunately, I did not write down the source I got it on from the Internet. When I find it I will post it.
Are you sure about the spelling of Linford that you have? All the ones I've seen do not have the "t" in it.Maybe it just got carried over to the next generation somehow.
