The Abernathy's (our line) go back to Robert A. Abernethy b. ca 1632.All of the information about him is well published on Brian Abernathy's website. http://abernathyfamilyorg.home.att.net/abernath.htmhttp://abernathyfamilyorg.home.att.net/abernath.htm He never immigrated, Robert was one of 1610 prisoners of war shipped to America by the year 1652, and arrived in Jamestown, Va where he served 4 years as an indentured servant. He appears to have been on the losing Scots side against Oliver Cromwell's English Roundheads in the battle of Worcester on Sept 3, 1651. The losing Scots were lead by Lord David Leslie. The final battle took place at Worcester, England by the river Severn, and resulted in 3000 dead Scots and up to 10,000 prisoners. To our knowledge his father was called George Abernethy de Barrie. Which means, his name was George Abernethy of the lands of Barrie (or town of Barrie).I have communicated by email with David Leslie of Australia who explained the reason why we can't seem to find out where the prior generations are.The last known Abernethy (a female) married Lord Leslie. All the Abernethy lands then became Leslie lands. It also seems that all Abernethy/Abernathys that now exist in Scotland today are not related to us.They have taken the name because of the town of Abernethy. The actual Abernethy line that we are attached to became extinct because they assumed that all of the male children of George Abernethy had perished in the wars and/or no longer lived in Scotland. We can make assumptions on what the line is,but because of the extensive damage due to the wars, all church records are now extinct. We just have to be happy with researching our current lines.
I hope this helps to explain. And, now please tell me where your line goes from Big John.My husband's line comes down from Big John, through Miles his son, and Columbus Washington his son.Columbus Washington was my husband's great grandfather.I would like to add you to my database as well as any succeeding generations if that is possible.I will trade any and all information to you also. Please contact me at email@example.com or send me a current working email for yourself.Thank You.. Judy Abernathy
