I did a little checking and no longer believe that Mary (Polly) Abernathy was married to Absolom Duncan, but only to Abraham Dailey.
Item: She was born in Nov of 1788 and married Abram Dailey at the age of 18 on 10 Mar 1807 (Source for marriage: Marriage Bonds of Tryon and Lincoln Counties North Carolina, by C. L. Bynum, p 37, bondsman James Hayns/Haynes, witness Betsy Henderson).
Item: An adult Absolom Duncan stood as bondsman on 1 Oct 1807 to the marriage of John Duncan to Youley Killon, witness Thos Wheeler.
Item: An adult Absolom Duncan stood bondsman to the marriage on 30 Jan 1827 of Ephraim Daily (Dailey) to Patsy Duncan, who was probably his daughter.
Item: No record found in that source for a marriage between Mary/Polly Abernathy and Absolom Duncan.
Item: there is a marriage of Absolom Duncan is on 30 Jan 1827 to Patsy Bynam (Bynum), bondsman Ephraim Daily, witness Wm. Little. This is probably a son of the earlier Absolom Duncan and brother to Patsy Duncan.
Bynum's book gives marriages for the following Mary or Polly Abernathys (sorted by year in which married):
1794, Polly, to John Moody
1798, Mary, to Richard Rozell
1798, Polly, to Thomas Rivers
1807, Polly, to Abraham Dayley
1822, Mary, to John B. Shuford
1826, Mary, to Nelson Harvill
1828, Mary, to John Bumgarner
1835, Polly, to Philip Whisenhunt
1839, Polly, to John H. Harwell
1848, Mary, to Aaron Farrell
1866, Mary M, to Albert A. Bynum
Under Dailey/Daily/Dayley on pages 36 and 37 are the following:
Dailey, Jacob F to Jane M. Kibler, 18 Aug 1841, bondsman F. A. Hoke (Jane Minerva Keebler?)
Dailey, Patrick to Nancy Hunt, 23 Jan 1817, bondsman Enoch Kelley
Daily, Ephraim, to Patsy Duncan, 30 Jan 1827, bondsman Absolom Duncan (father?)
Daily, Lawson, to Mahala Goodson, 30 Mar 1838, bondsman Washington Dailey (brother?)
Dayley, Abraham to Polly Abernathy (see above).
> The name Forney sure followed these families around, didn't it.
It did, indeed.
I've got 'puter troubles here, but as soon as they're fixed will try to get in touch with you via email.
Meanwhile, I hope the above helps.
