I will not comment on the family of Robert Aberanthy III--I do not even try to understand them except in vague general terms--but I am chasing a spare Robert Abernathy.I have recently become interested in Tignal (Signal) Abernathy (17??-1808) and his family.I believe that Tignal (Signal) Abernathy (17??-1808) was the son of David Abernathy (17??-c. 1790) and brother of Liles Abernathy (17??-1814).Both Tignal and LIles migrated from Dinwiddie to Mecklenburg County, Virginia, at the end of the eighteenth and beginning of the nineteenth century.Six children are mentioned in Tignal's will--Lucy Wilkin(er)son, Nancy Meredeth, Thomas, David, James and Robert.I can account for Lucy Wilkin(er)son, who moved to Georgia; Nancy Meredith, who died; and Thomas, James and David H., who all moved to Tennessee.I am unable, however, to account for Robert.I have no idea how old he would be.It appears that Tignal had at least two sets of children, and while reports are that Lucy Wilkin(er)son was born in 1773, David H[olmes] Abernathy appears to have been born after 1800.If Robert were born early,he might be a candidate to be Martha's husband. The families would have had some connection before the migration of Robert III and his children to North Carolina.Just a thought . . .
