Unfortunately, Cathy, my database is far more extensive when it comes to Abernathy/Abernethy's prior to the 1880 census. I'm afraid everything I know about your line I got from on-line databases, including your own.
It seems to me, on the basis of the scanty information I was able to pull off the SSDI this morning, that your best bet at present would be to 'bite the bullet' and write off to the gov't for a copy of the SSN Application for Benjamin Abernethy (Mar 1886-Nov 1966), 244-09-3247. It should have the names of his parents, which would get you back past the 1880 census, whereupon I might be of more help than at present.
Purely on the basis of some of the given names in your family, I'm inclined to think it's possible that your ancestors may go back to Logan Benjamin, son of Turner T. Abernathy and Frances 'Fanny' Whitener. But such leaps into the unknown on so little data have not always turned out well, occasionally ending up with hopelessly tangled lineages and proliferating bad data to frustrate hundreds of Abernathy researchers for years to come.
