I just finished a book by James Webb, called: "BORN FIGHTING - How the Scots-Irish Shaped America".I really enjoyed it. The beginning is a little slow with quite a bit devoted to early Scottish history but moves quickly into the American migration and does a very good job of discussing the Civil War and the reconstruction. He finishes with modern day and the impacts the Scots Irish have had in America. I think its a good read for anybody of Scots ancestry. Just my opinion.
