Hi: I saw quite a few Abernathy names in among the items in the newspaper extracts that I've been posting.
For those you don't know - I have been posting Barry County, MO, newspaper extracts for the years of 1890 to 1911 and thought that you might want to know that I have just finished getting 1907 and part of 1908 up and on the net.
In among them I saw one on a man who was named Abernathy who had a Revolutionary gun that his grandfather had carried at Cowpens, Bunker Hill and I can't remember for sure, but think it was also at Lexington. He said that his grandfather carried it when he was in among the party who arrested Bendict Arnold.
There is a search engine on the front page, but if you want to walk through the web pages, they are posted under the Missouri section. But - I think you will want to use the search engine since there are something over 50 web pages of them now posted.
Maybe too, I should say, to remember that these are old records and names were often spelled just like the editior of the paper thought that they should be spelled. There will be times that there will be two different spellings of a surname all in one item. So if you use your imagine and you'll find a lot more data.
