I agree that it seems unreasonable to think that the record keepers would continue to misspell his name, so the mystery remains as to which name is correct.I just know his many descendants know him as "Sterling" and would not change it at this late date.
While I am not descended from Sterling's marriage to Elizabeth Caroline Ware (I'm from his 2nd marriage to Mrs. Agnes Minerva Webb Craven), I have always been interested in finding out more about Elizabeth's siblings and parents since no one in our family knows much about her and her family.I know of two sisters, but I had no idea that she had two brothers named Jeptha and Elam even though I've seen their names in the census records in MS and, I believe, in AR.
I would be interested in continuing our discussion on this Ware line.I can be reached at lynnb47atmagnolia-netdotcom (I use a coded e-mail address in the hopes that spammers won't pick it up).
I've also wondered if Elizabeth Ware's family was related to my Jemison Ware line (he was in Perry and Talledega Counties in AL from the 1830s to the late 1850s).
And I'm related to the Rocketts also since Sterling's mother was Sarah Melvina Rockett.I have a lot of information on my Rockett family.
