> Would it be possible for you to let me know where you found Isaiah Abernathy in Wayne or Bollinger > County?
Perhaps I should have more correctly said "the children of Elijah, Isaiah, Frederick, Joseph, and... "
I can cite census sources in Wayne and Bollinger County MO for Elijah, for Joseph, for Frederick, but not for Isaiah. His presumed son, David Alexander Abernathy, yes. Frederick's son Ira, yes. Even one or two others. But not for Isaiah. If Isaiah's there, as some databases seem to claim, I've not found him yet.
There seems to be a common thread that ties together Elijah, Joseph and Isaiah: Isaiah endorsed the marriage bonds of both Elijah and Joseph, and none of the three could sign their own names.
I do not yet know if they are related to Frederick, who was at least literate enough to sign his name, or if so, how, but the Isaiah Abernathy who is traditionally assigned as a son of Miles Abernathy and Ursula Bradshaw was born, so I understand, in 1792 and is the one who married Sally Low in 1813 in Lincoln County NC, bondsman William Low. I have no concrete evidence as yet of his link to Miles and Ursula (Bradshaw) Abernathy. I have seen a Lincoln County NC will for a Miles Abernathy Sr, but I am very far from sure it applys to Isaiah's father. Besides, it doesn't name a single individual, not even his wife whom he appointed to settle the estate.
