Everyone has the opnion that there was a David Wilson Abernathy Sr. b 1767 in NC who married Ruth Vance b 1779 in NC.Their sons were David Wilson Abernathy, Samuel Vance Abernathy and William Abernathy. It is also thought that David Wilson the elder and Ruth are buried in Lacey's Chapel Alabama, by Bessemer.
However, there is an S. Abernathy age 83 bNC and wife Ruth age 71 bNC on the 1850 Pontotoc Co MS census. They are living by Eubanks and Rutledges, both names of families from the same area of Jefferson Co AL that the Abernathys were in before they all moved to Mississippi. Those ages would make S. Abernathy bc 1767, wife Ruth bc 1779.
I myself have seen David Wilson Abernathy Jr.s stone and wife Tabitha Jane's stone in the wooded cemetery in Lacey's Chapel. But there is no other David Wilson Abernathy's stone. Also, records show that the Rev. War David Wilson Abernathy is buried in another state completely.
My question is:Is it possible that David Wilson Abernathy's father's real name was Samuel?Hence the son named Samuel Vance Abernathy? And that he and Ruth are buried over in Mississippi instead of here in Alabama?
Note:The Rootsweb/usgenweb/Pont.Co MS census 1850 index has Ruth as age 41, and S. Abernathy's initial as 'L or T.'Furthermore, they split them up.Ruth is in the right place, S. Abernathy is indexed further down, out of order for some reason. But look at the actual image and it's obvious the initial is 'S,' and that Ruth's age is 71.
