The David CRITIS, a.k.a Davault CRITZ from France, who was a witness on the 1772 Robert ABERNATHY 3 will had a Spanish Land Grant in what was then Ste. Genevieve County, MO, part of which later became Perry County, MO. This grant was for 893 arpens on Bois Brule Creek which was to the left of Highway 51 near Sereno, MO, present day. David CRITIS or CRITES was also on the 1790 Lincoln County, NC, census living next door to a David ABERNATHY.
David CRITES died in 1805 leaving a will in Cape Girardeau County, MO, naming his children. One of David CRITES' daughters married a Bollinger from Lincoln County, NC, and this Bollinger started the "Dutch" settlement in Cape Girardeau County, MO. These Spanish land grants had to be before the Louisiana Purchase of 1803 and the claimants had to say that they were Catholics.
David CRITES was married to Sophia FORNEY, daughter of Abraham. Also there could easily have been Abernathys from Lincoln County, NC, in Missouri long before the 1820 bunch.
