Williamson Abernathy was a son of William H. Abernathy & Martha Hammond, and died 1 Jul 1863 in the fighting at Gettysburg, PA, but left a daughter Mary and a son, William Harvey Abernathy (15 Aug 1859-25 Sep 1936). I can document all but 3 of Wm Harvey's 11 children. His brother Edmond Abernathy also survived the war and left issue, some still found in Nash County on the 1930 census. I lost track of brother Robert after his marriage in 1856. Early census records have tally marks for 3 additional male siblings, of which I know nothing at all, not even given names. Sister Mary/Polly apparently married Richard Batchelor in 1857, while sister Elizabeth apparently married Jesse Davis and had 3 children by the 1850 census, but I don't know any more about issue of Richard Batchelor or Jesse Davis. I have no knowledge of a marriage, if any, of sister Mahidaliet/Mahidwhick, but neither she nor her mother could apparently read and write. William H. Abernathy died of pneumonia in Mar of 1850. He was a son of Joshua/Jesse Lee Abernathy and Elizabeth/Betsy Hutchins. Joshua was b. in Brunswick County VA, had moved to Franklin County NC by 1800. He married Martha Hammond on 4 Jul 1821 in Franklin County, was a son of John Abernathy Sr and Lucy Unknown, and is mentioned in John Sr's will dated 17 Feb 1812/3: Joshua apparently died in Wake County about 1818. John Abernathy Sr was a son of the 3rd Robert Abernathy of the colonial Virginia lineage from Charles City County VA. It's a pity we still cannot identify the 1st Robert's father in Scotland, but one day maybe someone can solve that mystery.
