I have spoken to Otis many times. He has had, from the first, a habit of jumping to incorrect conclusions, which I have had to point out to him on several occasions when he was 'way off-base.
The facts concerning many Abernathys from this area of NC are still by necessity under investigation by me after over 45+ years of research into this surname. I speculate too, I just don't do it on-line any more. When I do post online, I tend to restrict myself to verifiable facts and give source cites. So yes, my standards are quite a bit higher than most.
I have three living males of an Abernathy family that do not share the same Y-haplotype of other living individuals who allegedly descend from the same ancestor. I am trying to find out whether or not a possible error lies in my database and if so, where. The supposed pedigree of this Alexander Abernathy may provide a critical clue. So pardon me if I ask questions others may not have an immediate answer for.
Do you have a potential list of the children (proven or suspected) of Robert Abernathy's marriage to Polly Payne? Or better yet, a list of the possible children of Smith Abernathy of this area of NC and his wife? I can't track him beyond 1820. And what, if anything, can you tell me about the 93 yr old Rachael Abernathy found on the 1870 census inSilver Creek Twp, Burke County?
