I just looked at the will of Robert Abernathy 4 - wife Sarah - on your DNA web page and there are only two witnesses - James Abernathy who was Robert Abernathy 4's grandson and the son of James Abernathy and Elizabeth Cox as referenced by the Granville County tax list of 1757 and the other witness was John Rockett who married Robert Abernathy 4's grand daughter Sarah Abernathy who was the daughter of James Abernathy and Elizabeth Cox. James Abernathy, husband of Elizabeth Cox, drowned in 1785 and for some unknown reason ( I guess because he was dead ) was left off Robert 4's will but was represented by James Abernathy's son James and son-in-law John Rockett. These witnesses, James Abernathy and John Rockett, are not remote cousins but very close relations - a grandson and a grandson-in-law. ( This is just a possibility and is the way I see it or maybe the way I want to see it. Anyway it is staying in my family tree. )
Thanks for your and Margaret's wonderful work on our Family Tree DNA Abernathy web site.
I went to the library and ordered Birdie Abernathy Jamison's papers and it cost $7.50 and I don't know when it will arrive. Thanks for that.
