Miles Linford Abernathy (1 Jan 1848-28 Sep 1930) was a son of Michael C. Abernathy (b. cir 1803, d. after 1880) of Cherokee County, NC. Tabitha Palmer (17 Oct 1850-23 Mar 1929) and her husband are both buried in the Hanging Dog Baptist Church Cemetery in Cherokee County. Source: "Hanging Dog Baptist Church Cemetery Tombstone Inscriptions", Western NC Genealogy Resource Center for Cherokee County, initial publication date not known. Tabitha was a daughter of Eli Palmer and Vina Lunsford. Michael Abernathy and wife Isabella West are probably buried in Cherokee County, NC but as yet I have no evidence or sources for that fact. To the best of my knowledge, I also have no evidence for Michael's parents, but his Y-DNA (from a living direct line male descendent) indicates he is most probably from the lineage of the Robert Abernethy (AEbernethell or Abernathy) from colonial Charles City County, VA, who arrived on these shores, probably in the early spring of 1652, aged 19, owning nothing but the clothes on his back and the wits in his head. This Robert served 5 years as an agriculturial bondservant before achieving his freedom, whereupon he promptly married (on or before 3 Apr 1657) Sara Cubisha and made provisions for a dower in trust for his daughter by her.
