I am just begining to find my roots. My grandfather is Leiter Bond Abernathie b.12-28-1897 in Alexander County Illinois. My father Gordon Wallace Abernathie died when I was very young. I recall Grandfather saying we spell our name with an ie so you can tell who your relatives are.Any info you have will be a big help.
