Hi Christine, I saw your post on the ABERNATHY surname page at Genforum and wanted to let you know that I have a couple of close matches to your family. My G-grandmother was Mary C. ABERNATHY-TURNER, b. June 16, 1853 in Lawrence Co. TN. The reason for the double last name is because she was adopted, or at least raised by her grandparents, James A. and Lavinia (COWAN) TURNER and ended up using the name TURNER all thru her adult life. Her natural parents were Harmon and Jane (TURNER) ABERNATHY. Now the close or maybe real matches are this...Mary ends up marrying a Thomas HOWARD and has one girl, Violet and three boys. When Thomas dies, unknown where, but they were found living in Boone Co. AR. in 1880, she moves to Montgomery Co. AR. and files for homestead rights on anout 150 or so acres of land and gets clear title in 1901. Now her being a true ABERNATHY and living in Montgomery Co. AR. is strange enough, but I have a photo of her and a younger lady who looks to be in her late teens or early 20's named Minerva, last name unk. Could Minerva have been an ABERNATHY do you think, and the mother of your Nineva? Let me know what you think, ok? Thanks for your time, Sandy in AZ.
